Opening hours extended for Guggenheim Collection’s last weeks

Opening hours

The Art Gallery of Western Australia is opening its doors for longer over the next two weeks to give visitors a last chance to see the Peggy Guggenheim: A Collection in Venice exhibition before it returns to Italy.

Until 31 January 2011, the exhibition will open every day from 10am to 5pm, with Fridays remaining open until 9pm for people to enjoy the exhibition, with drinks and tapas after work at the Art Gallery Café.

Gallery Director Stefano Carboni urged people to take advantage of the extended hours, including Tuesdays when the Gallery was normally closed, and the lovely summer evenings on Fridays, to make sure they saw the stunning Guggenheim Collection.

“This is a fascinating collection of modern art, which includes pieces by famous artists including Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Vasily Kandinsky,” Dr Carboni said. “We are now into the final two weeks of this exhibition so this is the last chance to join thousands of people who’ve already enjoyed this truly world-class collection of art before it returns to Venice, Italy.”

The works in the exhibition display Peggy Guggenheim’s love of art and, in particular, her strong affinity for two key artistic movements of 20th century modern art – Surrealism and Abstraction. Also on display are personal photos and items which belonged to Peggy, such as a pair of her famous sunglasses.

Dr Carboni also highly recommended visitors take the opportunity to take an audio tour, which provided an insight not only into the art but also Peggy’s life. The audio tours are $8 and last for 45 minutes.

Admission charges apply. Tickets are on sale at the Art Gallery ticketing desk and through BOCS Ticketing on +618 9484 1133 or at http://www.bocsticketing.com.au. Adults $20; Concessions $16; Children 16 years and under $12; Family Ticket (2 adults + 2 children) $50 and Multi-Entry Pass $55. See details at: greatcollections.com.au
