PERFEKT WORLD, Präger der österreichischen Urban Art Szene haben die Kluft zwischen Street Art und Mainstream geschlossen. Ihre ironische Auseinandersetzung mit Themen Kommerz und Kitsch mündet künstlerisch in der Erschaffung einer perfekten Welt und der Kritik an dieser Realutopie./ As a group, PERFEKT WORLD have shaped Austria’s urban art scene, along the way bridging the gap between street art and mainstream culture. The collective examines the topics of commercialism and kitsch in ironic terms, to artistically create a perfect world, or “real utopia,” that the group in turn criticizes with its works.

n ihren Arbeiten beschäftigt sich Vasilena Gankovska mit Städtischem als Landschaftsbild, architektonisches Konstrukt, soziales Feld, als Ort der Gegensätze und des Interagierens. Die Künstlerin geht durch die Stadt. Es handelt sich um eine Art Spurensuche, ein Umherschweifen oder Sichtreibenlassen. Vasilena Gankovska versteht dies als situationistisches Handeln. Während dieser Spaziergänge sucht sie nach Motiven und Situationen, welche einem bestimmten Erlebnis entsprechen oder atmosphärisch wirken. Das Ergebnis verarbeitet Gankovska in einer vereinfachten, piktogrammartigen, visuellen Sprache. Es handelt sich um Malereien, die aus färbigen Fragmenten bestehen. Sie wirken zeitlos, obwohl erkennbar bleibt, dass diese Abbildungen aus der unmittelbaren Vergangenheit stammen, autobiografische Züge beinhalten, den Blick der Künstlerin und ihre Erlebnisse hinterfragen.
Ausgehend von der Frage nach dem Ausstellungsdisplay und der Kommunikation mit dem Betrachter bat die Künstlerin, das Künstlerkollektiv PERFEKT WORLD eine Kollaboration mit ihr anzugehen.
Das Ergebnis ist eine Rauminstallation, die Atmosphäre durch Licht und Projektionen erzeugt und dabei Erinnerungen, Gefühle und Bilder provoziert. Der Stadtraum und die Erlebnisse, die jeder von uns darin macht, werden durch die Installation zum Thema gemacht.

As a painter and artist, Vasilena Gankovska concerns herself with all things urban – from metropolitan landscapes, skylines and architectural constructs to the city as a social domain and place of interaction and contrasts. For Gankovska, a walk through the city is more like a “clue-finding” mission. While others might describe it as wandering, or even drifting, the artist prefers to think of her artistic meandering as “situational action,” since she is always in search of a motif or situation that correlates with a particular experience or evokes a certain mood. Afterwards, she processes the gathered clues and translates them into a simplified, pictogram-like visual language, which she uses to create paintings consisting of intriguing colored fragments. The works have a timeless quality about them, yet are easily identifiable as being from the recent past. At the same time, they possess autobiographical traits that challenge the viewer to place the artist’s perspective and experiences under closer scrutiny. Vasilena Gankovska’s intent of finding a fitting display form for the exhibition, as well as the right means of communicating with viewers, led her to invite the artist collective PERFEKT WORLD to collaborate with her. The result is a spatial installation that creates atmosphere through the use of light and projections, while at the same time provoking memories, feelings and images. In this fashion, the installation thematizes urban spaces and the experiences that we all make within these spaces.
