Bold Beauty Project, an innovative photography exhibition featuring brave, determined women who dare to expose their disabilities, will unveil new images at Art Palm Beach, an internationally recognized art show featuring 85 international galleries.
The Bold Beauty Project will host a reception from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on January 23 in the main Art Palm Beach exhibition hall, 650 Okeechobee Boulevard, in West Palm Beach. Guests will have a chance to meet Bold Beauty Project’s founder and co-director, Shelly Baer; models; board members; and one of its photographers, renowned artist and author Robert Zuckerman, who will be there signing his book, Kindsight.
“The project’s mission is to give women with a wide variety of disabilities a platform to challenge society’s definition of beauty,” said Shelly Baer, who co-founded the project in 2006 in Miami and was featured in the inaugural exhibit. “These women have had to overcome numerous obstacles in their lives, and often their bodies have been a source of frustration and limitation. By boldly stepping out of the shadows and facing the photographer’s lens, they reveal their strength, beauty and sensuality.”
The Bold Beauty Project began as Uncensored Life: Raw Beauty, a groundbreaking photography exhibit featuring provocative photos of disabled women. Now Baer and her board have decided to launch similar exhibits in select U.S. cities, giving voice to disabled women across the country. The group recently exhibited in Washington, D.C.
The Bold Beauty Project remains focused on shining the spotlight on courageous disabled women. Through brief biographies that accompany each photo, audiences can peer further into the lives of these inspiring women. The organizers hope audiences will discover beauty in unexpected places, expand their definition of who and what is beautiful, and recognize the creativity of the respected photographers.
Bold Beauty Project has partnered with United Cerebral Palsy of South Florida (ucpsouthflorida.org). Bold Beauty Project photographs from the Art Palm Beach exhibit will be for sale at BoldBeautyProject.com and at the Art Palm Beach exhibit. Proceeds will benefit United Cerebral Palsy of South Florida, a nonprofit that serves children and adults with a variety of disabilities.
