ONE MAN SHOW

10 sculptures, tracing the way from the Sea Dike to Scharpoord, in oak each the essence of one tree, the 11th piece is cast in iron, to refer to the stars and constellations.

7 pieces in bronze are also presented by Mary Ann Manning Gallery during 33rd Art and Antiques Fair ‘ART NOCTURNE KNOCKE' (stand nr 50) from the 9th to 17th August 2008 at the Scharpoord Cultural Centre in Knokke at the Belgian coast.

FACE THE SILENCE

An extraordinary place, unusual for Lapie's sculptures, allowing the replacement of man in the face of nature; between seas, breakwaters, and natural wilderness just before city spaces and industry, it refocuses our human dimension in relation to this nature. This exhibition allows us to take all measures.

We, the crowd, look at the silence; silence, simplicity, unity.

The symbolism of wood liaised with earth and sky offers to our consideration and our thoughts an occasion for a serene confrontation and sublime elevation.

Crack, a figure is extracted that reveals a man, updating the memory of the tree's interior and then creates figures, which are all projections of our happy or unhappy situations, then reassembles bringing them back to unity.

The four elements are combined: water, sand, air, fire, Lapie allows us to return to our origin, find our roots, our existential reason, to be humans.

An exceptional time, the month of August, the time of crowds, sand castles, ice-creams, family reunions, a time for lectures, and also rest.

Christian Lapie's sculptures exist amongst us, showing us what we seek. Somewhere between the archaic and modern, between primitive and pure concepts.

These figures, gathered in various numbers, stand silent as if immutable, as if to disturb us during this time of standstill, especially during the "holidays".

An act "The form distinguishes itself from the subject and the background, but not vice versa. The figures dissipate, when they are reflected on the background that reassembles. I need to reassemble this background to dissolve the form. This background, which no longer reassembles the background, but acquires an autonomous existence; the figures that are reflected in this background are no longer form, but an abstract line acting directly on the soul."
