(New York, NY) April 30, 2015—Spring Masters New York, the international art and design fair showcasing exceptional works from antiquity through the 21st century, will take place Friday, May 8 through Tuesday, May 12, 2015, transforming the historic Park Avenue Armory with architect Rafael Viñoly’s groundbreaking hexagonal booth layout.
Timed to coincide with the peak of the spring art season in New York, Spring Masters attracts leading exhibitors and collectors from around the world. The fair was created to respond to global demand for a high-quality event that offers a breadth of material during this exciting time. Directors Michael Plummer and Jeff Rabin of Artvest Partners bring their extensive experience and innovative strategies in other art businesses to the art fair landscape.
The fair will feature expertly curated and thoroughly vetted presentations by 61 exhibitors from the U.S. and Europe. Viñoly’s layout will foster a dialogue between the diverse periods and styles on view, from distinguished Old Masters works presented by Richard L. Feigen & Co. and Otto Naumann Ltd., to Todd Merrill Studio’s contemporary designs. Debra Force Fine Art, Inc. will exhibit a watercolor painting by Edward Hopper, and Mullany will showcase a 16th century Flemish tapestry, on view for the first time in the U.S. Osborne Samuel Gallery will show works ranging from Korean artist Kwang Young Chun to British sculptor Tony Cragg.
Galleries will emphasize their unique areas of expertise: Ronald Phillips LTD will display 18th century English furnishings by Thomas Chippendale, Robert Adam and John Cobb, Moeller Fine Art will share their collection of 19th and 20th century masterworks, Michael Goedhuis will offer Chinese contemporary ink art, Salon 94 will focus on a solo installation by contemporary artist Kueng Caputo, and Coll & Cortés will present sculptures by José de Mora and Pedro de Mena, among other Spanish artists. Additional highlights include Tomasso Brothers Fine Art’s European Renaissance bronzes, Didier Ltd.’s selection of jewelry, Hammer Galleries’ Impressionist and Modern works, including Edgar Degas, Fernand Léger, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and Claude Monet, Armand Bartos Fine Art’s 20th century art, and Lost City Arts’ display of 70 ceramic forms by Fausto Salvi. Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts, LLC will feature early American Modernism, Vojtech Blau will highlight a large-scale tapestry by Alexander Calder, while works by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Auguste Rodin, and other pioneering sculptors will fill Bowman Sculpture’s booth.
Building on Spring Masters’ theme of juxtapositions and its focus on collecting across periods and centuries, New York-based interior designer Jamie Drake will present a specially curated booth consisting of objects and artwork drawn from the fair’s exhibitors. Renowned for his exuberant color sense, eye for unique detail, and equal facility in traditional and modern styles, Drake counts Madonna and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg among his clients. His sophisticated, contemporary living space will welcome guests into the fair. Drake notes, “Selecting from the diverse offerings of Spring Masters New York is a pleasure. My urbane interiors always employ an array of cultures, periods, textures and forms to create spaces that delight the eye and pique the mind.”
