Princely Treasures: European Masterpieces 1600‐1800 from  the Victoria and Albert Museum
 
A stimulating series of daytime and evening talks with fascinating insights from leading  academics, artists, celebrities, directors and curators. Talks commence in the Art Gallery of  Western Australia Theatrette and conclude in the Princely Treasures exhibition space.

Wednesday 2 November 2pm  Vanessa Wiggin, Conservator  Antiques conservation: looking after your treasures (princely or not)  The talk will include a brief introduction to the work of a conservator and practical advice on  how to preserve your treasures at home.

Friday 4 November 7pm  Susan Broomhall, Winthrop Professor UWA  Power & Glory: objects of beauty, objects of war.  In this talk, we will explore how European monarchs used art to represent various forms of  power ‐ political, social and cultural‐ as well as act as a form of power itself.

Friday 18 November 7pm  Dr Gerard Vaughan, Director of the National Gallery of Victoria  Passion for the antique: sex, lies and theft in late 18TH century Europe.  A glimpse of the underbelly of neo‐classical taste and the antics of these passionate  collectors and their dealers, and how they fulfilled their desire for objects as demand far  outstripped supply. The search for antiquities often resulted in rampant forgeries, deception  and criminal behaviour.
