SOTHEBY’S SPRING DESIGN AUCTIONS TOTAL $20.3 MILLION IN NEW YORK

Table lamps by Tiffany also brought top prices, with a “Pony Wisteria” Table Lamp and “Dragonfly” Table Lamp each realizing $337,500 and $275,000. Superb examples of the firm’s designs in favrile glass and fancy goods saw spirited bidding from collectors, who drove prices well above the high estimates: a Rare “Lava” Vase on Stand achieved $125,000 –more than three times its $35,000 high estimate; a Rare Jeweled “Peacock” Box sold for $87,500 – more than seven times its $12,000 high estimate; and a Counter-Balance Desk Lamp brought $75,000 (estimate $ 30/50,000).

Examples of the firm’s landscape windows were highlighted by an exceptional “Birches and Irises” Landscape Window, which achieved $275,000. A “Wisteria Trellis” Window bested its high estimate of $60,000 to sell for $131,250, rounding out the May offering.
