Museum Shows
During Art Basel, the city’s museums will once again offer a series of significant exhibitions. Home to one of the largest and oldest public museum collections in Europe, The Kunstmuseum Basel will reveal its new gallery building in April 2016 with the special exhibition ‘Sculpture on the Move 1946–2016’, that focuses on sculptural art between the end of World War II and the present, and the exhibition ‘Barnett Newman—Drawings and Prints’. Fondation Beyeler will show a comprehensive exhibition devoted to Alexander Calder and the artistic partnership of Peter Fischli and David Weiss. The exhibition centres on the moment of fragile equilibrium, a precarious and at the same time auspicious state that is never more than temporary. The Schaulager will exhibit ‘Zita – Щapa Kammerstück von Katharina Fritsch und Alexej Koschkarow‘, while ‘Frankfurter Block’ by Reinhard Mucha will be the main focus of an exhibition at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst. Museum Tinguely will present ‘Michael Landy. Out of Order’, the artist’s first retrospective outside of the United Kingdom, while a large institutional show by Yngve Holen and a new project by Anne Imhof will be on view at the Kunsthalle Basel. The Vitra Design Museum will present the first European retrospective of textile artist Alexander Girard.
