RENOWNED AND EMERGING CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS
This year’s annual auction features a strong selection of modern and contemporary art, with works by Yaacov Agam, Joseph Zaritzky, Lea Nikel, Nir Hod, and more on offer. Of particular importance is a late work by the internationally renowned Israeli artist, Avigdor Arikha; painted in 1988, Nude on a Sheet (estimate $70/90,000) exemplifies the figurative style of painting the artist adopted in the early 1970s. The sale also features artists that will be making their auction debut, including Fatma Shanan and Nirit Takele. In Shanan’s powerful and monumental Self-portrait and a Carpet 2 (estimate $15/20,000), the artist weaves her own image into her primary motif, the oriental carpet, a recurring subject in her work. The present painting was featured at the artist’s first major show this year at the Tel Aviv Museum. Additionally, the sale also features ten contemporary pieces from The Jerome & Ellen Stern Collection, including works by Adi Nes, Michael Gross, and Moshe Gershuni.
